A winter’s Tama City Council meeting

TAMA – On Monday night, footprints in the snow led up to the Tama Civic Center as locals braved the harsh wind for the council meeting. After a public comment section filled with complaints and discussion about snow and snow removal, the council moved on to their agenda items. First up on the docket were some changes to the employee handbook. No major alterations were made, and all were approved.

Second up was a contract the council made up for newly resigned police officer Aaron Adams. Adams had 30 months left on his contract with the city of Tama. With the new contract, he will be able to pay off his police contract with Tamahe over the next 30 months. Adams was hired by the Story City Police Department.

The council came up with a possible access route for Business 30. A map has been made up for the idea. The possible route would be a way to get around the bridge. The idea was approved and was sent on for further investigation as to whether it has any validity.

Multiple local businesses have been vying to rent the Paper Mill warehouses. In response to this, the council has asked city attorney Mike Marquess to look into writing up a lease.

The council also appointed new council member Michelle Jiminez to the Emergency Management Board.

Tama EMS reported having almost 1,000 calls last year, nearly 200 above previous years. Transfers are booming as 45 were done last month alone.

The police department reported having 306 calls last month.
