End of a season

Troutner writes her final Toledo Farmers Market report

After 21 years of organizing one of the few farmers markets in Tama County, Dawn Troutner recently announced she would be retiring at the end of this season and passing the reins to two new volunteer leaders.

This was the last Toledo Farmers’ Market of the 2021 season. This was also the last Toledo Farmers’ Market that I will be manager of, yes it’s true I am retiring after 21 years of being the Toledo Farmers’ Market Manager. I know that the market will go on without me, there are two vendors willing to manage the Toledo Farmers’ Market. They know I am a phone call away if they need advice or help. It was a hard decision, but I have done my time and it’s time for new management. Good luck girls.

The Toledo Farmers’ Market sends out deepest sympathy to Kristi and family on the loss of her mother.

This week at the market, Delania brought eggs, jams, peppers, hot peppers, beer apple bread, and jalapeno cheese cornbread.

Lisa had plenty of small loaves of her delicious sweet breads. Chocolate zucchini, chocolate chip, banana, strawberry, lemon to name a few.

Caryn brought her assortment of snack mixes, flavored popcorn, and jams, and jellies.

Jim and Penny from Dolezal Bees brought a large assortment of honey, honey comb, bees wax cubes, calendula healing skin salve, and lip balm.

Lois and Brenda brought zucchini, cucumber, green, red peppers, spaghetti squash, and acorn squash.

Sheryl was all set up with her colorful ceramics. There was football night lights, Halloween creatures, gnomes, small animals, and winter items,

Dawn brought popcorn, tomatoes, potatoes, red cabbage, garlic, winter squash, pumpkins, ornamental corn, and houseplants that needed a warm home.

And Keith Lambetsen was playing his accordion for everyone to enjoy. Thanks Keith for donating your time to entertain us.

It’s been fun everyone, thanks for supporting your local vendors and attending the 2021 Toledo Farmers’ Market season. Hope to see each and everyone of you for the 2022 Toledo Farmers’ Market season.
