National Guard food distribution is planned for Tama on Thursday

A total of 100 lbs. of free food will be provided to each of 150 families and individuals by the Northeast Iowa Food Bank tomorrow, Thursday, May 14, in a distribution operated by the Iowa National Guard.

The event will get underway at the Tama Meskwaki Assembly of God Church, 900 E. 5th St., beginning ta 9 a.m. according to Pastor Kenny Mervin.

To take part, recipients are to line up in vehicles parked northbound on adjacent Jackson Street to the south and the line up can then extend westward on East 3rd Street.

Guard members will place the food supplies in the vehicles.

Included will be 30 lbs. of frozen food, 50 lbs. of canned and packaged goods and the remainder is made up of produce, milk and eggs.

In addition, the church continues a the site of a daily distribution of food provided by Dollar Fresh in Toledo and weekly from the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.

Food and certain health and household items are also available to aid those in need at the South Tama Food Pantry, 3rd and McClellan at 137 West 3rd in downtown Tama. It is open weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Clients may come once a month for groceries.
