Toledo-Tama Kiwanis invite new members

Kiwanis Club needs to increase its membership in order to continue the worthwhile programs it sponsors. The Kiwanis’ projects are devoted to our communities and our children. The Fine Arts and Academic Banquet honoring high school students is an event that rewards students for their achievements in these areas. The Golden Achievement Banquet honors outstanding middle school students.

Other less well-known work is Kiwanis sending students to leadership camps, donating to Dollars for Scholars, and helping defray the cost of foreign exchange students’ lunches. As needs arise, the Kiwanis club will contribute to local projects like Adopt a Family If citizens look at the shelters located in Tama and Toledo parks, they will see they were Kiwanis’ projects. The beautiful arboretum south of the high school has lent beauty to the grounds. All the trees were purchased and planted by Kiwanians.

This is an organization that benefits our communities and our kids. It is also an organization which requires little time on the part of the members. Meetings are each Wednesday at noon at the Country Club. Attendance is not mandatory, but the food and fellowship make it a great place to have lunch. There are approximately five hours devoted to fund raising in an entire year. Dues are $14.00 a month. If members choose to eat lunch, it is $6.50 per meal. Rhonda Pokorny provides excellent food – a couple of salads, vegetable, entree, dessert and a drink – all you can eat. A full meal at this price is very rare.

Please join us and know that your membership helps our kids and our communities. Your participation is needed and this organization is worth your effort. Contact Larry Fletcher 484-5305 or ldfletcher@mchsi.com or Megan Theissen at 484-4061 or mrhlOl2ghotmail,com.
