“I was thinking what I could do to help others out and my dad suggested this – “Barb Wire Ranch” – because it’s in town here,” Logan Roberts says. The 11 year-old South Tama 6th grader.

He has launched his own fund drive to help those less able to pay for therapy sessions at Ryan and Susan Crains’ ranch.

Logan has teamed up with the Flaming Office in downtown Toledo as a sale point for his “50-50” raffle offering chances to win at one dollar apiece. The winner drawn for the pool of money gets one-half, the other half goes to pay for therapy sessions.

Even better, Flaming Office owners Tammy and Roger,, are matching the total donation and the Crains are too.

“We’re honored Logan came up with the idea, especially since he hasn’t ridden with us before,” Susan Crain said.

Located on Toledo’s east edge, Barb Wire Ranch provides equine therapy for persons with special needs and for those who love to ride as well. It has been in operation for nearly five years. The Crains have found the interaction with their horses for those with physical or emotional needs has a healing and uplifting effect.

They say a big need for them is also volunteers. Susan says it takes three perons to assist when people ride the horses which is done inside in their large arena barn in the winter time.

The contest got underway on November 1 and the winner will be drawn at the Flaming Office New Years party on the evening of Dec. 28.

Logan will be keeping good track of the proceeds as his favorite class he says is math.

For horses, Logan says he has only ridden once but has hopes his dad will get one for the acreage they live on.
