Dawson Davenport, Meskwaki Settlement resident and a member of the Meskwaki Nation has been named one of three 2019 Bicultural Iowa Writing Fellows at the University of Iowa.

He is the first Native American to be nominated as a Bicultural Iowa Writing Fellow.

Dawson is an artist, poet, writer, thinker, activist, advocate, educator, musician, hip-hop head, radio host, podcaster, fashion designer, entrepreneur among many other things. A non-traditional student at the University of Iowa, majoring in Art/Graphic Design, and Entrepreneurial Management, he is a member of the Native American Student Association (NASA), and Indigenous Iowa.

He is joined in the honor by Ajla Dizdarevic and Antonia Rivera.

The Honors Writing Fellows Program is a peer tutoring/writing across the curriculum initiative. Writing Fellows are undergraduate students in the Honors at Iowa Program who are assigned to a course to provide feedback to students on first drafts of writing assignments. Writing Fellows complete the Writing Theory and Practice course taught every fall by our program directors, Carol Severino and Megan Knight.
