Hometown Holidays events set for Tama-Toledo on Nov. 17 weekend

The Tama Toledo Area Chamber invites the community to its 2nd Hometown Holiday events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17 and 18. Starting early on Saturday, Nov. 17, St Patrick Church Knights of Columbus will host a pancake breakfast for the community at the Reinig-Toledo Civic Center from 6:30 – 9 a.m.

Following the pancake breakfast Santa will be hosting all the community children with cookies and juice at the Tama Toledo Country Club from 9 a.m.- noon. Free photographs with Santa will be taken by the Chamber. Those free 5×7 photographs will be available one week later at Shopko. Ladies of the Country Club will also provide a cookie walk inside the club house from 9 noon. If you don’t have children who wish to see Santa, then stop at the Country Club anyway, because the Cookie Walk is a great opportunity to obtain holiday food specialties at great prices.

At the same time, Dennis Dostal’s holiday trolley will be providing free rides starting at the Country Club at 9 a.m. and running until Noon.

Both local libraries have joined in the celebration with free activities for area children. From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., the Toledo library will host a drop-in crafting session for children ages 3- 12. Various craft projects will be produced. Small children should be accompanied by an adult. The Tama library will provide cookies for the children to frost and decorate themselves from 9:30 11 a.m.

The STC High School 2019 After Prom committee will once again host a Craft and Vendor fair at the High School from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The group will also offer a luncheon available during those times at the school.

Mandy and Jason Lekin are sponsoring a free children’s movie at the Wieting Theatre at 2 p.m.. The Wieting Theatre Guild will be operating their concession stand during the movie.

Once again, the Community is invited to attend the lighted Christmas Parade hosted by the Toledo Fire Department; line up will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Green Street near the middle school. Every organization and business is invited to participate in this annual event. The Parade itself will begin at 5 p.m.

During and following the Parade, ISU Extension and local 4H clubs will be offering a soup supper from 5-7 p.m. in the Reinig Center for a free will offering. The youngsters have also invited Santa to stop for a bowl of soup following the parade and are also providing activities for children during that time. The soup supper helps the local 4H groups fund their annual trip to the State 4H meeting. Following the parade there will be a lighting of a tree on the Courthouse lawn, thanks in large part to James and Mary Roan, the State Bank of Toledo and the City Council of Toledo.

A new feature of the day, and one that will need the cooperation and involvement of the local businesses and organizations is a Festival of Trees all day in the Reinig Center Interested individuals and groups should prepare a decorated tree for presentation all day at the Center. There is no cost to participate. Chamber planners are hoping for at least ten participants this first year event.

The local Chamber hopes you find an activity you can enjoy with your family this year. For more information, please contact Janet Busch at 641-344-1543 or email the tama.toledochamber@gmail.com.
