Amelia Kemper Speaks to Toledo-Tama Kiwanis
At the September 5th meeting, Amelia Kemper, director of KidsCorner Daycare, spoke to the Kiwanis about the happenings at the day care. Amelia worked there from 2013 as a teacher and became director in 2017.
This day care is the only one of its kind in the Tama-Toledo area. They serve 95 children with 36 being drop-ins. The children vary in age with some being as young as 6 months. The center employs 18 people to care for and teach the children. Teachers have regular lesson plans, but also they take the older children into the community using 15 person vans. They go to such places as the nature center and other places of interest. They often participate in local parades. One of the fun activities is water day when the children can run through sprinklers. Parents particularly enjoy the summer olympics as they can attend the event.
The children are served breakfast and lunch along with two snacks during the day which is provided by an employed cook. All meals are composed of healthy foods.
Amelia said that the center uses digital technology to communicate with parents during the day, so parents are always aware of what is happening with their child. Currently, they will be installing a new security system using a grant from the federal government.
The center is able to continue to serve several communities through fees for attendance, donations, and grants. Donations of all kinds are appreciated like art supplies and blankets.
President Fletcher thanked Jake Jacobsen for leading the song and pledge, Sara Feisel for greeting, and Anne Michael for giving the prayer.
