Meskwaki Veterans Day Powwow

The 2016 Veteran’s Day Powwow was held on Friday November 11, 2016 at the Meskwaki Tribal Center.

The afternoon began with the first Veteran’s Powwow Princess Contest. The Princess Winner was Kaitlyn Jefferson. Other Contestants included Sitara Xiavong, and Genesis Ramirez. Those entering had to be 10-17 years old and be a descendent of a Meskwaki Veteran. At 4:30 a dinner served.

Contests held during the Powwow included:

Veteran’s Only – Men & Women Combined – All Style (Sponsored by Meskwaki Tribal Council, in honor of all veterans)

Women’s Fancy Shawl (Sponsored by Head Lady Tonya Azure)

Men’s All Style 18+ (In honor of Dean Whitebreast)

Women’s Old Style Scrub Special 16+ (Sponsored by Elaina YoungBear, MAPA Sr. Princess)

Street Clothes Dance Contest (Sponsored by family in memory of the late Andrew Roberts)

– Tiny Tots Contest, 6 years and under, (Sponsored by Veteran’s Powwow Committee and Meskwaki Youth Program)

– There was a canned food drive called the “Arrest Hunger Food Drive” that was put on by the Meskwaki Probation Department

Children danced during the Tiny Tots Contest at the 2016 Veterans Day Powwow at the Meskwaki Tribal Center.

The 2016 Veteran's Day Powwow was held on Fri. Nov. 11, 2016 at the Meskwaki Tribal Center. The afternoon began with the Veteran's Powwow Princess Contest. The Princess Winner was Kaitlyn Jefferson.
