The Toledo Library has been awarded a grant from the Tama County Community Foundation for Youth Reference Materials. The Tama County Community Foundation awards grants to help support projects within our communities. To update the shelves, the library has purchased a current set of much-needed individual books of the United States displayed here by Jennifer Bledsoe, library director. These up-to-date reference books are essential for our young patrons that are doing research on the United States. It is wonderful to replace the older copies with current copies. The Toledo Public Library and Library Foundation greatly appreciate the grant funding received from the Tama County Community Foundation for the purpose of renewing our collection of youth U.S. books. -Photo provided

TOLEDO CHRONICLE-The Toledo Library was a busy place this summer with preschool story time, Crafty Wednesdays in June, Digital Literacy workshops and the Summer Reading Program all going on.

Fall will soon be upon us and that means Early Out events, more computer classes, Annual Book Sale and an Iowa Author Event.

The library will host 17 early out craft programs for our school age kids. Come visit the library and pick up a copy of the Annual Calendar of Events or print it off from our website www.toledo.lib.ia.us.

We request that kids sign up in advance for these fun programs. Join Sandy Krough, Iowa Works Advisor for a Digital Literacy computer workshop to be held on Friday, Oct. 14 from 1-2:30 p.m.

Come to the class with at least one thing you would like to learn to do and Sandy will do her best to help you out.

The Toledo Public Library hosted its second Back to School Root Beer Float event on the first early out day for STC. The weather certainly cooperated making it a fantastic day to stop in and enjoy a cool treat. These girls, l to r, Lauren and Allison Yuska, Kaitlin Berger and Sabrina Holtz along with over 70 others, took advantage of this library program to get together, relax, and have fun while taking advantage of the free goodies. The library will once again hold the Annual Book Sale in October and November. The sale will have a variety of materials; books, books on cassette & CD, DVDs and magazines. Fill a bag for a donation. All donations go back into the library to help purchase new materials. Tell your friends!

October brings us an Iowa Author Event that will be hosted by the local AAUW. Jeffrey S. Copeland, English Professor at UNI is the author of Inman’s War-A Soldier’s Story of Life in a Colored Battalion in WWII.

He will visit our library on Monday, Oct. 24 with a book signing at 6 p.m. and a presentation at 7 p.m. Please join us!

This wonderful service provides audio and e books to you at no charge if you are a library patron. Currently, supporteddevices include the Sony Reader and the Barnes and Noble Nook.
