Holy Grounds Coffee has permanently closed its Toledo location after less than a year in the community.
The business announced the closing on June 18 via Facebook.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of our Toledo location due to unforeseen circumstances,” they wrote. “We want to sincerely thank our customers, staff, and the Toledo community for your support, encouragement, and loyalty. We have been blessed to serve so many wonderful people and create countless memories along the way.”
The post continued, “While this chapter is coming to an end, we are grateful for everyone who has been part of our journey. Thank you for supporting local and believing in us.
If you or someone you know may be interested in the space, please contact Matt at 641-758-9149. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Toledo.”

The closure comes after months of disruptions that began in late March when the coffee shop was forced to close because of maintenance issues in the building. On April 2, Holy Grounds announced that a water line break had caused significant damage and would require repairs before the business could reopen.
Throughout April and May, Facebook posts provided periodic updates stating that contractors were working to repair the damage as insurance claims were processed. The coffee based business also brought in their trailer in the parking lot while the restoration efforts were underway.
After more than two months of closure, Holy Grounds announced the reopening of the Toledo location on June 10 with reduced hours. Just eight days later, owners announced the location would close.
The Toledo location first opened with a soft opening in September 2025, followed by a grand opening in October. The shop was the company’s first storefront location after beginning as a trailer. With the closure in Toledo, Holy Grounds remains open in State Center and Marshalltown.
According to the company’s website, Matt Wilder and Steve Slifer are co-founders of the company. Wilder did not respond to a request for comment from the News Chronicle regarding the closure.
