Meskwaki Casino tentative reopening set July 1

The Meskwaki Bingo • Casino • Hotel, rural Tama, is now tentatively scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, July 1. This was the announcement made on the Sac and Fox Tribe social media page today – Friday May 29. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds lifted the COVID-19 closings for casinos in the state effective June 1.

So far, the Tama-Toledo News Chronicle has only received official notice of the opening of the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque set for the June 1 date.

According to the post the Sac and Fox Tribal Council decided in a meeting on Thursday night, May 28- “(The Counicl) has extended the Shelter-in-Place order until June 15th.

“Scheduled lifting of the order for the Meskwaki Nation will be on the 15th with the re-opening of the Meskwaki Bingo Casino and Hotel tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, July 1st. Official details will be sent at a later date.

“Tribal Operation’s departments will begin partially re-opening beginning on Monday, June 15th. All casino and Tribal Ops staff will be paid until re-opening.”

casino closed on March 17 in compliance with orders to closes many public venues in Iowa including all casinos due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
