Apfel named county zoning director

Todd Apfel was named Monday as the Tama County Zoning Director by the Board of Supervisors. He replaces Jerry Witt who resigned in April.
Apfel, of Vining, also is the Tama County Sanitarian. Both positions are part-time.
The pay for the zoning position is currently $6, 219 annually and was approved, along with all Tama County employee pay, for a 3.5 percent hike on July 1.
Witt, who also served as county assessor, accepted the position as Linn County Assessor.
The combination of sanitarian-zoning director has been jointly held by some in the past according to Auditor and Board Secretary Laura Kopsa.
Also on Monday the supervisors:
appointed Steve Baier, Tama, to the Civil Service Commission.
set a public hearing for May 14 in the board room in the Tama County Administration Building, 104 W. State, Toledo, on proposed amendment totaling a $218,783 increase to the current county budget.
approved County Recorder Deborah Kupka’s quarterly report showing total fees collected in the amount of $26,567.
approved tax abatements for three mobile homes with former Traer addresses. Two have been demolished and a third can no longer be found.
