Bohemian Mutual Insurance Association is celebrating its 150th year with an Open House on Thursday, Aug. 3 at their office at 1309 S. County Rd. (U.S. Highway 63), in Toledo. See Details Page 3.
They have been insuring farms and homes in Tama County and in the surrounding counties since 1867. The company was formed by a group of about a dozen farmers who decided to organize their own fire and lightning mutual instead of relying on the limited knowledge of Eastern stock insurance companies.
Today, the company has over $ 1 million in premium income and over $2.6 million in surplus.
They are reinsured with Grinnell Re, Grinnell, Iowa. The company is governed by policyholders who are duly elected to the board of directors. The day to day operations are handled by the Secretary/Manager and office staff.
