It’s just a couple of doors west of the former location, and the popular El Cerrito Mexican Restaurant now features a more spacious dining area and soon-to-be-completed party room in its new spot at 115-117 West 3rd St. in downtown Tama.

Armando Hernandez, who operates the restaurant along with his three brothers, Jose, Livorio and Salvado, says seating is now available for more than 50 in the main restaurant while the party room will seat at least 40 guests when opened.

The brand-new seating is in a completely remodeled space with booths and tables available. El Cerrito also has a much larger kitchen in the new location featuring brand new equipment, Armando says,

El Cerrito continues to feature “authentic Mexican – not “Tex Mex” which it quickly became known for in the former location at 109 West 3rd St.

Desserts are available to accompany meals.

A full bar service for mixed drinks has been added to accompany the former beer and wine offering.

They opened at the new location about two and one-half months ago and busy has been good according ot Armando.

El Cerrito is open from 11 a.m.- 10 p.m. seven days a week. There are noon lunch specials and take-out orders are welcome.
