Begin tracing your roots for free at Historical Society event May 4

Are you curious about your roots? Do you want to learn more about your ancestors? The Tama County Historical Society is offering the chance to begin your journey with free assistance from its team of research volunteers.

The Tama County Historical Society is offering free research assistance on Thursday, May 4, beginning at 7 p.m. in the society’s genealogical library, 200 N. Broadway St., Toledo. Shows like “Who Do You Think You Are?” and “Finding Your Roots” have made family history as popular as ever. The volunteers at the historical society are ready to help you begin a similar journey into your own genealogical past.

Come to the Genealogical Library on May 4 with the name of an ancestor you would like to research. Bring as much information as you have, including any specific questions you may be looking to answer. The event will feature a brief overview of Ancestry.com tools and historical society’s collection of newspapers, obituaries, military and veteran information, court records, and more. Research volunteers will be on hand to offer advice and support to begin your family history journey – all at no cost.
