DES MOINES -Governor Chet Culver has appointed Stephen Jackson Jr. as a judge for Iowa’s 6th Judicial District.

The vacancy was created when District Judge Kristin Hibbs retired after 22 years of service. The 6th Judicial District encompasses Tama, Benton, Jones, Johnson, Iowa, and Linn counties.

“I am pleased to appoint Stephen as an Iowa District Court Judge,” Culver said. “Stephen has an outstanding background, and I thank him for continuing his commitment to justice by serving on the bench.”

Jackson is currently a private practice attorney in Cedar Rapids. He attended the University of Notre Dame where he received his undergraduate degree in 1988. In 1991, he received his law degree with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law. Following law school, he joined the firm Rudnick & Wolfe, Chicago, where he practiced until 1994. At that time, he returned to Iowa to join the Jackson Law Office, Cedar Rapids. In 2001, he became a partner in the office now known as the Jackson & Jackson Law Office.
