Volleyball splits at WaMaC
The South Tama varsity volleyball team traveled to Marion High School on Thursday night, Oct. 17 to participate in the annual WaMaC Conference Invite. The Trojans ended up splitting their two matches and earned a fourth place finish in the western division.
STC’s first match was a 2-0 loss to Solon (25-15, 25-13). But the Trojans rebounded in their final match of the night for a 2-0 victory over Vinton-Shellsburg. In two highly contested sets, STC prevailed 25-21 and 25-22.
In the victory, the Trojans were led by sophomore Paisley Bro with six kills. Sophomore Mady Boriskey, senior co-captain Macy Welsh, and senior co-captain Janette Cervantes each contributed four kills. Senior Skyla Beck led the team with 14 assists. Defensively, STC was led by Welsh with three blocks, and Bro and Boriskey with three digs each. Cervantes led the team with four aces. Freshman Scout Ridout followed with three aces.
With the win, the Trojans completed the regular season with a record of 13-19. Postseason play for STC began on Tuesday night, October 22. The Trojans travel to Center-Point Urbana to face the Stormin’ Pointers in the Class 3A Region 5 Quarterfinal.
