STC harriers compete at conference
MARION — The South Tama cross country team competed at the WaMaC Conference meet on Thursday, Oct. 17. The team traveled to Marion for the annual event.
The Trojans boys were led by junior Barrett Jesina, who finished 7th overall with a time of 16:58. The finish earned Jesina a spot on the 2024 WAMAC All-Conference team. Jesina was followed by senior Jerome Kapayou (56th place, 19:18), freshman Brady Jesina (63rd, 20:06), and junior Rayden Hill (76th, 22:05). For Hill, his time earned him a personal record.
On the girls side, STC entered four into the junior varsity race. They were led by freshman Jayva Gomez (21st; 23:36). She was followed by senior Jenny Manzo (53rd, 25:35), sophomore Livia Smith (83rd, 27:43), and junior Nazaret Carrillo (90th, 29:23). For Gomez, Manzo, and Carrillo, their times represented personal records.
The Trojan runners traveled to Waverly on Wednesday, Oct. 23 to compete at the State Qualifying meet. Following that, any runners that qualify will compete at the 2024 State Cross Country Meet in Fort Dodge on Friday morning, Nov. 1.
