Jojo Tyynismaa set to compete at Division III Track and Field Nationals

Division III track and field athletes from all over the country will be making their way to Myrtle Beach, S.C. this week. Wartburg Sophomore and STC alum Jojo Tyynismaa is one of those athletes making the cross country jaunt.

Tyynismaa has had a long season with plenty of impressive stops along the way. She was named “Women’s Track Most Valuable Performer” at the American Rivers Conference Indoor Championships after competing and placing high in four events.

Not stopping there, Tyynismaa competed and earned All-American honors at indoor nationals, competed at the drake relays, and competed and placed in five events at the ARC Outdoor championships winning two events and placing top 4 in all 5 events she ran.

Qualifying for nationals at the D3 level is based off of time in a ranking list, and this determines seeding for nationals as well. Jojo Tyynismaa comes into nationals seeded 11th in the 100 meter hurdles, ninth in the 4×400 meter relay, and sixth in the 400 meter hurdles. She also had achieved a qualifying mark in the 400 meter dash, and was one of the first competitors out of the 200 meter dash. Tyynismaa has opted not to run the open 400.

Her event schedule is as follows:

1st round 400 meter hurdles Thursday, May 23 @ 5:10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time

1st round 4×400 meter relay 7 p.m. EST Thursday

1st round 100 meter hurdles Friday, 3:10 p.m. EST
