Trojan girls track competes at Union

LA PORTE CITY — The STC girls track and field team took a trip to Union high school to compete in their first outdoor meet of the 2024 season. The girls track team is made up of several young and new athletes to the sport, as they enter the outdoor season they look to continue the success and improvement they were able to find in the indoor track season.

As the meet got underway, the Trojans had some notable performances in the running events. Freshman Alexis Thiessen placed eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.05. In the 400 meter dash, junior Macy Welsh placed sixth with a finishing time of 1:16.31. Senior Kayla Heck ran the 800 meter dash in a time of 2:51.79, which placed her second overall.

South Tama was also able to find good success in their relay teams on the day. The Trojan 4×200 meter relay team placed fifth with a combined time of 2:04.34. The South Tama 4×400 meter relay squad placed third overall with a time of 5:02.47. The 1600 medley relay team was able to capture a second place finish with an impressive time of 4:57.47.

In the long jump, the Trojans had some stand out performances from two freshmen. Alexis Thiessen placed second in this event with a jump of 14.09 feet, and Oliva Hala placed seventh with a jump of 13.04 feet. With this performance, both athletes scored big team points for the Trojans.

The South Tama girls track and field team placed fifth overall with a final score of 53.5 points.
