Trojan boys blow out Vikings

It was another home basketball game in the roundhouse for the Trojan boys as the Vinton Vikings hit the road for the anticipated rematch last Friday night, and STC came out on top this with a convincing 55-33 victory.

The last time these two teams met was in Vinton, where the Trojans beat the Vikings with a score of 53-47. This time around the Vikings hope to escape with a much needed win on the road, while the Trojans look to continue their win streak and defend home court.

It was all South Tama to start off this game as the Trojans jumped out to an early 14-5 lead against the Vikings in the first quarter. Senior Jeremy Dolash and freshman Emerson Bridgewater both asserted their dominance early, scoring down low and crashing the boards for rebounds.

The Trojans as a team played great defense collectively as they used multiple strategies to keep the Vinton offense from scoring. South Tama also had great production from their bench as seniors Kaden Kopsa and James Brant provided good energy to help the Trojans boost their lead. Going into halftime the score was 25-12 South Tama on top over Vinton.

As the second half got underway, the Vikings started to break away at the Trojan lead. Junior Keyton Grimm and freshman Kade Sutton were both able to get to the rim and either score or draw a foul to help get the Vikings within single digits of the lead.

But just as it looked like it was going to be a close finish, the Trojans exploded offensively to put the game away. Seniors Tommy Tyynismaa and Cade Rosenburger both hit huge shots to increase the South Tama lead to 43-23 at the end of the third quarter.

Over the last quarter South Tama was able to hold on to their dominant lead and even get some young junior varsity players in the game for some valuable varsity experience. In the end, South Tama finished the game with a 22 point advantage.

Bridgewater led the Trojans in scoring with 18 points, while Tyynismaa followed close behind with 13 points. Bridgewater also led the team in rebounds with 12 and senior Daniel Wiese led the Trojans in assists with four. South Tama will be back in action next week at home against the Clear Creek-Amana Clippers on Friday night.
