STC’s Jason Arp wins Southeast District Coach of the Year

Last weekend the South Tama wrestling community was proud to hear that girls wrestling coach Jason Arp won the Southeast District Coach of the Year. This announcement makes Coach Arp eligible to be on the ballot for state coach of the year at the girls wrestling state tournament next week. Arp is well deserving of this honor as he has helped lead the Trojans to a currently undefeated season in duals and high individual achievements, in only the second sanctioned season of STC girls wrestling.

Along with these accomplishments, he has also coached up a girls wrestling state champion with Maeley Elsbury, who has very high regards for Coach Arp.

“He’s done a great job of leading our team. He is always looking out and doing what is best for us like staying after practice and helping us out individually so that we can become better,” she said.

She also mentioned how Arp, from the beginning, has helped her individually grow and become the wrestler that she is today.

“When I started wrestling at this level my freshman year he was the coach that helped me the most. He’s one of the main reasons why I’ve had success in this sport. And throughout my whole career he has always been there to support me in the highs and lows.”

Arp will continue to coach and support the girls wrestlers on the highest stage as they look forward to competing in the girls wrestling state tournament in the Xtream Arena in Coralville.
