STC senior Gavin Bridgewater selected for Shrine Bowl

Gavin Bridgewater, a senior at South Tama County High School and one of the Trojans’ biggest playmakers on the football field, has been selected for the 2024 Iowa Shrine Bowl.

The Shrine Bowl is an all-star football game recognizing senior athletes and coaches across the state of Iowa and is held in the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls on July 20. This event has been a tradition since 1972, funds raised from the event benefit Shriners Children and its goal to provide pediatric care anywhere.

When asked about his selection to the Shrine Bowl and what it meant to him, Bridgewater is grateful for the opportunity.

“It’ll be a great experience for me and it’s an honor, because very few athletes get to go. I’m thankful for being selected,” he said.

He also talked about the people that have surrounded him and the impact the STC community has had to help him get to this point in the sport.

“The biggest reason I have found success in football is because of the people around me like my family, coaches, and teammates. Because of their support I want to repay that to the community and show that South Tama has really good athletes,” he said.

Lastly, Bridgewater shared some goals that he has going into the big game.

“I want to keep my tackle average the same, or if anything, raise it and prove that South Tama has some tough, hard hitting athletes. I want to represent well,” he said.

As the summer months roll around Bridgewater, his family, coaches, and other supporters in the community will look forward to seeing his football talents at full display, as this Trojan competes at the 2024 Iowa Shrine Bowl.
