The South Tama girls wrestling program has continued to be a highlight in Trojan athletics over the past two years. As a new and upcoming program, they have already achieved a lot of success as a team and individually.

With many young athletes, the future looks bright for girls wrestling at South Tama and Thursday night at the roundhouse only gave fans more things to be excited about. The Trojan girls looked to defend the home advantage against the Solon Spartans and Marion Wolves.

To start off the duals, Solon captured a 54-36 win over Marion. It was a close dual to start off with both teams trading individual victories back and forth, until Kara VeDepo at 105 and Irelyand Hagarty at 125 both came out on top for the Spartans to help them secure the win over Marion.

Now, it was the South Tama girls’ turn to hit the mats and face off against the Solon Spartans. Right off the bat, Abigail Chyma at 155, Kinley Jimenez at 235, and Ava Hendricks at 110 all picked up a fall to boost the Trojans to an early lead. Then to end the dual for South Tama, the returning state champion, senior Maeley Elsbury at 135, recorded a fall to give the Trojans a 48-33 win over the Spartans.

In the last dual of the night, the Trojans took on the Marion Wolves in hopes to accomplish a first place finish as a team. The STC girls again started off with multiple victories from Autumn Elsbury at 190, Livia Smith at 100, and Taylor Johannsen at 105. Next in very similar fashion to her first match, Maeley Elsbury achieved another dominant win by fall to increase the Trojan lead. To end the night for the girls at 145 Brooklyn Mitchell won by fall to hand the Trojans a convincing 51-15 win over Marion.
