Spartans shut out Trojans in season finale

SOLON — As the 2023 football season comes to an end, the winless South Tama Trojans hit the road one final time to take on conference opponent the Solon Spartans. Solon is ranked #2 in class 3A with an impressive 7-1 record, so defeating them was going to be a tall task for the Trojans in their season finale.

South Tama fell behind early in the game as Solon got off to a hot start, firing on all phases on offense. The Spartans got both the passing and running game going to take a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Solon’s defense also proved to be formidable against the Trojans offense, not allowing points to be scored before halftime. South Tama found themselves into a 38-0 hole going into the locker room.

Looking to end the season on a positive note, the Trojans tightened up on defense only allowing two touchdowns in the second half. But unfortunately it wasn’t enough to take down the Spartans on this day, as Solon closed out the game well to take a 52-0 victory over South Tama.

The Trojans had 66 yards of total offense, 17 yards through the air and 49 yards on the ground. Quarterback Daniel Wiese was 5/10 on passes for the night.

Senior Gavin Bridgewater led the team in rushing with 15 carries for 40 yards and senior Jeramy Dolash led the team in receptions with 4 catches for 14 yards. Defensively, Gavin Bridgewater accounted for 11.5 tackles leading the Trojans in this contest.

The Trojans finished the season with a 0-9 record and will look to continue to improve going into next year.
