TAMA – On Monday, the Vinton Vikings traveled to take on the STC Baseball team in two games of WaMac conference action. The Trojans came out on top of both matchups, winning 3-2 in the first game and 10-7 in the second.
Head coach Jerod Bridgewater highlighted both games in a brief interview after both games concluded, noting that pitcher Emerson Bridgewater tossed 6 2/3 innings with two runs, none earned.
“He didn’t have his best stuff but battled and came out with the win. We were able to scratch across a few runs by doing the little things right, bunting when needed and stealing some bases,” Jerrod Bridgewater said. “Defensively we started out slow with a couple errors in the first inning but we buckled down and played much better after the first inning.”
The coach then reflected on the second game.
“Game two was a collective effort on the mound. Wiese, Clegg and Medina combined to keep the game close until our offense started rolling. McBride had two doubles and a three RBI game to lead us offensively,” he said. “That being said, I thought as a team offensively we again did the little things, bunted, sac fly, stolen bases to be successful.”

Bridgewater felt confident and encouraged with the performance against a conference rival.
“I feel that last night we really came together as a team to get two wins. Our attitudes and efforts were outstanding,” he said.
The Trojans next home game is Monday, June 19 against West Delaware.
