After a successful state campaign, rising STC senior Tommy Tyynismaa looks to continue his track season with two final races, both happening out of state.

On Thursday, June 1, Tyynismaa will compete at the Hoka Festival of Miles in St Louis, Mo. Tyynismaa’s 800 meter time from state qualified him for a special 800 that coincides with the mile themed meet. On the starting line, Tyynismaa will face competitors from Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Texas and Missouri.

The “Final Surge HS Boys 800” will take place at 8:30 Thursday night and can be live streamed through Runnerspace.com.

Belmont Mile

Following his race in St. Louis, Tyynismaa plans to travel to Augustana College in Rock Island, IL to compete in the second annual Belmont Mile on Saturday, June 3. This event is being advertised as an all comers meet with various heats and divisions for milers to compete in. Many of Iowa’s top prep athletes are traveling to set a postseason PR at the event.

Tyynismaa spoke enthusiastically about his final two races of the season.

“I want to race good competition. I want to have fun and see what my legs have left in them, doing the thing I love most, running,” he said.
