On Tuesday, April 11, the North and South Tama Golf teams met at the Tama-Toledo Country Club in order establish a clear victor in Tama County golf. A year ago when the two schools met North Tama won both bouts over nine holes. In 2022, the North Tama girls won 226 to 237, and the Redhawk boys also won 185-197.

In 2023, the roles reversed with South Tama winning this year’s clash in both boys and girls matchups.

Leading the Trojan Boys was Junior Daniel Wiese, ending the night with a score of 39 on his home course. Wiese’s scorecard came in two strokes under fellow junior Kaden Kopsa, who golfed a 41 over 9 holes.

When asked about the difference in this year’s matchup, Wiese responded with, “All of our guys spent a lot of time at the course over the summer and fall. Tonight was a result of that hard work.”

The Trojans’ top golfer of the night also talked about his first place performance.

“My game felt fairly steady throughout my round. I was hitting fairways and making putts. I got myself in a couple of sticky situations but still managed to keep the big scores off the card,” he said.

When asked the same question, Head Coach George Kuhter said, “Hard work and a summer of playing golf on the right level.”

Kuhter is in his second year as head golf coach, coming out of retirement to lead the boys program. Talking about what brought him back to coach, Kuhter said, “The interest in building a program with a good set of young guys doing things the right way through competition and hard work.”

The girls golf team saw the same outcome on the night, winning their bout with the Redhawks. With similar results to the boys, two Trojan ladies took 1-2 — Mollie Wobeter and Kayleah Laughlin, scoring 49 and 50 respectively and capping a night of success for the Trojans over their county rival.
