STC Boys Tennis wins season opener

The South Tama Boys Tennis Team traveled to Eldora on March 30 to face the South Hardin Tigers. The Trojans came away as winners of five of six matches to post a 5-1 victory.

South Tama Junior Kaden Timm was dominant at #1 Singles as he cruised to an 8-1 victory over Landon Rewoldt. Timm’s ground strokes proved to be the difference as he relied on his formidable forehand to control most rallies.

Senior Austyn Ellenbecker posted an 8-0 victory over Daniel Dolan at #2 Singles. Ellenbecker’s crisp backhand was on full display as he placed the ball wherever he wanted to take control of every point. Ellenbecker found a consistent serve late in the match to race to an easy win.

Junior Brayden Thompson raced to an early 7-0 lead to take control of the match at #3 Singles. Thompson’s return of serve was a crucial part of building to an 8-2 victory over Sawyer Kane.

Sophomore Ian Vore played an intense match against Carter Zollar at #4 Singles. Players battled to deuce in almost every game giving both players a chance to win the match. Zollar ultimately proved too consistent as he converted an 8-2 win for the Tigers.

South Tama dominated doubles play, losing just one game. Timm/Ellenbecker teamed at #1 Doubles against Rewoldt/Dolan. The experienced duo from STC used consistent serving, as well as, a dominating net game to easily grab the 8-0 win.

Thompson/Vore faced Kane/Vore at #2 Doubles. Thompson blasted service return winner after winner to his opponent to pressure the young Tigers. Vore found his consistency from the ground in the match to complement Thompson’s game as the duo cruised to an 8-1 win for STC.
