Trio of Trojans score silver at WaMaC

The South Tama girls’ wrestling team scored three silver medals and placed seventh out of 11 teams at the WaMaC Conference Tournament on Monday night at Williamsburg High School.

Maeley Elsbury, Abagail Chyma, and Autumn Elsbury each placed second at their respective weight classes, helping the Trojans pile up 82 team points. Independence won the WaMaC crown with 220 points, Vinton-Shellsburg (183) was second, and Williamsburg (146) was third.

Maeley Elsbury, ranked third by IAwrestle, moved her season record to 40-2 after a 2-1 day that included two wins by fall before a 7-6 loss to No. 2 Dakota Whitman of Independence in the 135-pound championship match.

Chyma’s record moved to 25-13 for the year, going 1-1 with a win by fall before a third-period loss by fall to Mount Vernon’s Gracie Pickney in the 155 title bout.

Autumn Elsbury, ranked seventh, improved to 32-4 with a 2-1 showing that featured two first-period pins before a nailbiting 2-1 loss to No. 4 Libby Dix of Mount Vernon in the 170 finale.

Jamy Dolash placed fifth for STC at 190, Addison Klenk came in seventh at 110, while Taylor Johannsen did not place at 115.

The South Tama girls compete in the IGHSAU Region 4 wrestling tournament at 11 a.m. Friday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
