Trojans go 0-2 in conference tournament, drop regional opener to end season

The South Tama volleyball team’s season came to an end on Monday night as the Trojans fell to Roland-Story in four sets, 16-25, 25-23, 18-25, 23-25 in a Class 3A Region 6 quarterfinal match played in Story City.

Last Thursday, the Trojans, who finished the 2022 campaign 12-23, fell in consecutive matches at the WaMaC conference tournament, losing best of three matches in straight sets to West Delaware (10-25, 19-25) and Independence (17-25, 23-25). Kortney Babinat finished with 12 kills and 16 digs between the two matches to lead STC, and Mollie Wobeter had a total of 23 assists.

In the match against Roland-Story, Babinat was again the top hitter with 13 kills, and fellow senior Ashlynn Kriegel added 10 in her final outing wearing a Trojan uniform. Wobeter had 33 assists and 12 digs, and Cassandra Klostermann (20 digs) and Kriegel (seven blocks) were the top defenders. Babinat also landed five aces.

Babinat, Wobeter, Kriegel and Klostermann are the four departing seniors for STC.
