Trojan boys’ harriers fourth at WaMaC conference meet

INDEPENDENCE — Tommy Tyynismaa took second place, and the South Tama County boys’ cross country team claimed fourth place at the WaMaC Conference meet on Thursday, October 13th.

Tyynismaa finished in 16 minutes, 27.6 seconds to trail only Marion senior Jedidiah Osgood, who clocked in at 15:52.5 for the individual crown. STC’s James Brant was fifth in 17:00.5 to give the Trojans a pair of top-10 performers.

Braxten Rohrs (16th, 17:34.5), Cade Rosenberger (35th (18:16.8), and Kaden Kopsa (40th, 18:28.2) closed out the Trojans’ team scoring.

Marion won the team title with 61 points, followed by Mount Vernon-Lisbon (71), Solon (92), and STC (98) in the 11-team event.

The Trojan girls were last out of 10 teams, finishing with 297 points. Their top finisher was Kayla Heck, who placed 52nd in a time of 23:53.6. Autumn Elsbury (59th, 25:29.7), Andrea Padilla (60th, 25:45.2), Alex Castanon (66th, 27:43.1) and Maribel Castanon (69th, 29:21.0) completed South Tama’s team scoring.

Mount Vernon-Lisbon won the girls’ team title with 50 points, trailed by Solon (68) and Clear Creek-Amana (79).
