Trojan boys take first at West Marshall Invite

STATE CENTER — The South Tama track and field team traveled to West Marshall High School on April 28 to compete against 10 other schools in the area.

When the dust had settled South Tama ended up at the top of the leaderboard with a final score of 122, beating out second place BCLUW and third place hosts West Marshall.

The Trojans managed to take home 10 total medals at the invite including three golds, five silvers and two bronze.

In the 1600 meter race, senior Tommy Tyynismaa managed to edge out teammate sophomore James Brant for the gold. A mere .01 seconds separated the two as they painted the finish line with Trojan blue, with East Marshall’s Joe Terrones finishing a full 10 seconds behind both of the South Tama runners.

Sophomore Braxton Rohrs took home gold in the 3200 meter run with a blistering time of 11:12 that saw him finish just over 10 seconds ahead of Baxter freshman Matt Richardson.

South Tama also found first on the podium in the 4×800 meter race at a time of 8:30.48, walloping the next closest school by almost 20 seconds.

The relay team also finished third in the 4×100 meter race with a time of 24.39. Sophomore Luis Avalos found himself on the podium twice on the day, one silver medal in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.82, missing out on gold by a slim margin of .17 to BCLUW’s Tyler Bracy. Avalos also left with a third place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.39.

The 400 meter dash saw two South Tama runners in the top three, with senior Trusten Rosenberger finishing second place at 53.06, and sophomore James Brant following him up closely behind in third at 53.79.

Rosenberger also found himself on the podium a second time, securing another second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.10.
