South Tama, Meskwaki tracksters on to State

South Tama boys and girls track will be sending one relay and four individual events to the State Track and Field meet at Drake Stadium.

The Trojans traveled to Pella for Districts Thursday, May 13.

On the boys team Payton Vest qualified in the Long Jump after winning the meet with a jump of 20-09.50. Eli Keahna qualified in the Shot Put with a throw of 48-02.50. Trusten Rosenberger qualified in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:04.22. The boys 4×800 including James Brant, Tommy Tyynismaa, Devon Slagle and Trusten Rosenberger qualified with a time of 8:29.32.

For the STC girls Emma Harwick qualified in the High Jump with a jump of 4-10. Jojo Tyynismaa qualified in four events including the 100 Meter Dash (13.01), the 200 Meter Dash 26.94, 100 Meter Hurdles (15.57) and the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:10.10)

The Meskwaki Warriors traveled to Belle Plaine for the District meet Thursday. The Warriors will be sending five individual events to the Class 1A State meet next week.

Taurice Grant qualified in the 100 Meter Dash (11.62), the 400 Meter Dash (51.71) and the Long Jump with a jump of 20-10.

Shye Johnson qualified in the 1500 Meter Dash with a time of 5:34.08 and the Long Jump with a jump of 15-11.75.

Sia Bear qualified in the Long jump with a jump of 15-08.

The State Meet starts Thursday morning at 9 a.m. with Class 2A and 3A boys and girls.

Class 1A starts competition at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
