Trojans end season winless

The South Tama girls basketball season has come to an end for the year. The Trojans travelled to Iowa Falls-Alden (14-7) to face the Cadets for round one of girls regional basketball Saturday evening.

The Trojans fell to the Cadets 56-23.

South Tama came out strong in the first quarter leading 6-2. In the second quarter the Cadets righted the ship, dominating the Trojans 25-6. From then on it was Iowa Falls-Alden all the way as the Cadets outscored the Trojans in each quarter for a 33 point victory over STC.

Game leaders for the Trojans included Carissa Musgrave, Kailee Meek, Aubrey Roberts, Shelby Slaven, Adriana Cervantes and Kayla Heck.

Musgrave led in scoring with nine points. She was 4-15 for field goals and 1-10 from the three point line. Kailee Meek had five points and Aubrey Roberts added three points.

Musgrave also led the Trojans in rebounds with six and she had five steals. Shelby Slaven had five rebounds and one steal and Adriana Cervantes had three rebounds.

Slaven led with two assists. Cervantes and Kayla Heck each had an assist.

Graduating from the roster this season include seniors Tylese Rosenberger, Carissa Musgrave, Shelby Slaven and Aubrey Roberts.

Rosenberger sat out much of the season due to an injury but she and Musgrave have both committed to play basketball in college.

Rosenberger will be playing for MCC and Musgrave will head to William Penn.

Anticipated returners to the varsity roster next season include juniors Kailee Meek, Adriana Cervantes, Neena Lasley and Lauren Veit, sophomore Emma Harwick and freshmen Martha Flores, Kayla Heck and Takia Rosenberger.

Iowa Falls-Alden moved on to play Clear Lake (16-1) Wednesday evening.

South Tama ends their season 0-17.

It has been a tough two years for the Trojans who lost all but one game last season. The Trojans broke a losing streak at the tail end of the season in February of 2020. Their overall record for the past two seasons is 1-38.
