Regional Duals

MANCHESTER — Top-ranked West Delaware took no mercy on South Tama as the host Hawks blanked the Trojans 74-0 in the Class 2A regional duals final on Tuesday night.

South Tama, ranked No. 24 in the final Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association poll, opened the night with a 42-23 victory over fellow WaMaC Conference foe Central DeWitt. The reward wasn’t very rewarding, as the No. 1 Hawks handled STC convincingly.

West Delaware, with all of its 10 ranked wrestlers in the lineup, racked up 12 bonus-point victories including nine pins, two technical falls and one major decision.

South Tama was convincing in its semifinal victory over Central DeWitt, winning nine of 14 bouts for the 42-23 triumph.

Four wins came by fall and another by forfeit for STC. Ethan Cruikshank collected the Trojans’ first pin at 126 pounds, and three-straight pins from Boden Koehler (160), eighth-ranked Payton Vest (170) and Ryne Kesl (182) put the win out of reach. The two teams were tied at 18-all before STC’s decisive pin parade.

Payton Vest (170) lost to East Marshall’s Samuel Bandstra 12-7. Vest took second by rule.
