Cross Country has returned for their fall season to courses across the state.

South Tama began their season at the Williamsburg Invitational Tuesday, September 1.

The Trojans were set to start their season a week earlier at the MCC Earlybird meet but heat derailed the competition.

Tuesday’s meet saw overcast skies, a high of 72 degrees and 5-10 east to southeast winds.

The STC boys took fourth as a team with a score of 100. The boys team welcomed four new faces to their roster with freshmen Tommy Tyynismaa, James Brant, Kaden Kopsa and Cade Rosenberger.

STC’s Jojo Tyynismaa finished 18th at the Williamsburg Invite Tuesday, September 1. CJ Eilers/Vinton Newspapers

Tyynismaa and Brant each had finishes within the top 10. For Tyynismaa’s debut varsity race he finished impressively at fifth place. Brant came in eighth.

On the girls side, STC’s Alyssa Chyma finished top 10 securing 10th place. The next top finisher for the Trojans was Jojo Tyynismaa, older sister of Tommy. Jojo is a junior and took 18th place.
