Warriors celebrate victory and Senior Night

Meskwaki hosted GMG on the grid iron Friday evening. The Wolverines are one of Meskwaki’s top opponents and Friday was the first time the football teams would come face to face.

With the Wolverines making the shift to 8 Player football this season, they were able to take on fellow Iowa Star Conference school Meskwaki Settlement for the first time as the Warriors have played in the 8 Player format since their high school was established more than a decade ago.

The first meet up went in favor of Meskwaki. The Warriors celebrated a 70-54 win and 10 seniors on their Senior Night.

Senior football players include Daymon Rosenberger, Desmond Kapayou, Taurice Grant, Evan Nelson, Victor Balderas, Jaycob Bear, Sage Keahna, Royce Kapayou, Bishop Chavez and Tiernan Wanatee.

Meskwaki’s senior quarterback, Taurice Grant, had a monster of a game racking up 244 yards passing and 196 rushing yards. Grant recorded nine touchdowns, six passing and three rushing.

Grant is tied in the state for passing touchdowns in 8-man football.

Another game leader in stats for the Warriors was Evan Nelson. Nelson had 105 in receiving. He had one touchdown and also led in defense with 12.5 tackles.

Victor Balderas led with three sacs.

The Warriors will travel to Iowa Valley (1-1) tonight, Friday.
