Trojans fall to Union at team duals

On Saturday the STC Trojans qualified six wrestlers at sectionals held at Union. They also took second as a team which qualified them for Team Regional duals held Tuesday evening. The Trojans once again made the hour long trip to LaPorte City where they faced Class 2A 2nd ranked Union for the dual.

The Knights handily won the evening 49-21. The night started with weight class 220. Rudy Papakee started the Trojans out strong with a 7-1 win over Gabe Hanson. Kalem Schrock wrestled at 285 and despite giving up some weight Schrock still managed to once again take down Liam Stone, 3-1. The two faced off on Saturday at sectionals as well.

At 106 Brody Chyma pinned Sarah Michael, Union’s lone female wrestler in the lineup. The two also faced off at sectionals.

The Knights earned an easy six points at 113 as the Trojans are open at that weight class.

Chyma’s pin was the last win the Trojans saw until they circled back to the upper weight classes. At 120 Kolten Crawford pinned Ethan Cruikshank (1:58). Hunter Worthen won by decision (6-3) over Logan Arp. It was a redemption win for Worthen who fell to Arp on Saturday in the championship match 2-1 in overtime.

At 132 Lake Lebahn pinned Kyler Smith. Then Lane Hennings got a major decision win over Brady Knode, 14-2.

At 145 Jack Thomsen pinned Boden Koehler. Thomsen is ranked 2nd in Class 2A.

Stone Schmitz pinned Garrett Arp at 152. Jon Millard pinned Logan Schmidt (1:31) and Adam Ahrendsen pinned Brayden Smith (1:53).

After a long stretch of losses STC’s Payton Vest pinned Dacoda Marvets (1:12). The night finished with Mitchell Knock defeating Josh Hines 6-2.

Union went on but lost to Davenport Assumption 41-32.

The next stop for the Trojans is District this Saturday at Ballard. Wrestling begins at noon.
