TROJANS QUALIFY SIX TO DISTRICTS

South Tama County will be sending six wrestlers on to the 2A District Tournament in Ballard this Saturday. Logan Arp (126), Kyler Smith (132), Garrett Arp (152), Brayden Smith (170), Payton Vest (182) and Kalem Schrock (285) will each compete at Districts.
Eighth ranked Logan Arp received a bye in the first round. Arp pinned Jake Vawter of West Marshall in the semifinals. He went on to win the championship match over ninth ranked Hunter Worthen of Union 2-1 in overtime.
Kyler Smith had a bye in the first round. He won 7-6 over Dane Thompson of East Marshall. In the finals Smith fell to Lake Lebahn of Union which made Smith runner up.
Garrett Arp received a bye in the first round. In the semifinals he defeated Samuel Bandstra of East Marshall 3-2. In the finals Arp fell to eighth ranked Stone Schmitz of Union. Arp finished runner up.
Brayden Smith received a bye in the first round. Smith then defeated Ben Kielman of West Marshall 10-5 in the semis. In the finals Smith pinned Logan Walton of East Marshall to become sectional champion.
Payton Vest had a bye in his first round. He went on to defeat Kameron Malloy of West Marshall 10-0. In the finals, Vest pinned Tayte Nauman of East Marshall for 182 sectional title.
Kalem Schrock also had a bye. Schrock has been wrestling at 220 for much of the season but has now bumped to 285. In the semis Schrock defeated Liam Stone of Union 12-1. In the finals Schrock pinned Camdan Vincent of Nevada to earn his sectional championship.
For five on the team their season ended in Union. Brody Chyma, Ethan Cruikshank, Brady Knode, Boden Koehler and Mitchell Knock each ended their individual season in Union.
Today’s Sectional 5 wrestlers (including South Tama) will meet up with the champions and runner-up wrestlers from the 2A Sectional 6 tournament. Those Sectional 6 schools include: Ballard, Gilbert, North Polk, Perry, Roland-Story and Woodward-Granger
South Tama finishes as Saturday’s Sectional 5 Runner Up team and qualified for Regional Dual competition that was held Tuesday. The Trojans headed back to LaPorte City to face a field of competition that included Union, Iowa Falls-Alden and Davenport Assumption. STC’s first round dual was scheduled against Union. Tuesday’s eight Regional Dual meet champions then qualified for State Duals.
