South Tama wrestling officially kicked off their season on Saturday, December 7 in Independence. The Trojans attended the Cliff Keen Invite where 41 teams, 10 from out of state all gathered for a two day event.

Starting off the season at the Cliff Keen Invite is a good opportunity for the Trojans to wrestle multiple matches over the weekend. The tournament was set up in four different brackets gold, silver, bronze and copper and started on Friday afternoon with wrestling in pool style brackets that would help determine the final brackets on Saturday.

South Tama’s top two finishers were seniors Garrett Arp at 145 and Payton Vest at 195. Both finished 9th overall in the 2019 tournament which was an improvement for both wrestlers from last years tournament. Apr finished 15th in the 2018 tourney at 145. Vest, who wrestled much of the season at 170 last year is wrestling at 195 this year. Vest finished 17th last year.
