Trojans march into 2019 competition season
Home half-times have been offering up musical flash-back Friday’s with the STC Marching Bands Decades show.
Songs in the Decades show include The Animal’s “House of the Rising Sun”, Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Journey’s “Open Arms,” and NSYNC’s “Bye, Bye, Bye.” Jonathan Meyers is a featured trumpet soloist in House of the Rising Sun and Jordan Cremeans has a baritone solo in Open Arms.
Drum majors for this year’s Marching Band team are Katherin Kofstad and Jojo Tyynismaa. Kofstad was looking most forward to the marching band’s competition season because they are able to spend a lot of time bonding during those days.
“The competitions are where all of my memories are. It’s that sense of team bonding like before a game, or meet or scrimmage. It’s getting that team together and saying all right we’ve got this. It’s knowing that we’ve got each other’s back just like in any other sport,” said Kofstad.
The STC Marching Band has already competed in two marching band competitions including the Pella Invitational on Sept. 28 and the Seasons Invite on Oct. 5. The State Festival is this Saturday, Oct. 12 and the Waukee Invitational is on Oct. 19. They will have one more home performance on Oct. 18.
