Three Trojan wrestlers are still on the path to the State Tournament. Logan Arp (120), Aiden Waseskuk (182) and Kalem Schrock (285) will head to Districts this Saturday after wrestling their way through the Sectional tournament at Williamsburg on Saturday, February 2.
Arp began his day with a bye. He then faced Chase Malloy of Williamsburg and won 4-1. He then faced 5th ranked Brock Beck of Grinnell in the championship match. Beck won by decision 11-4 over Arp. The top two in each weight class advance to Districts and thus Arp advanced as the 120 runner up from Sectional 12.
Arp will see Sectional 11 120 champion and 7th ranked Payton Drake (PCM) at Districts.
Aiden Waseskuk started his day with a bye at 182. Waseskuk then faced Doug Flattery of Albia. Waseskuk pinned Flattery to move on to the championship round. In the championship match, Waseskuk fell to Connor Murty of East Marshall 7-5. Waseskuk defeated Max Meade in a wrestle back 7-1. Waseskuk will face Sectional 11 182 champion and defending 170-pound state champ Lucas Roland (PCM) at Districts.
At 285 Kalem Schrock is in his first year ever of wrestling. He started his day with a bye. Schrock defeated Brandt Hughs of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont (UTB 7-5). Schrock then fell to Cole Cremeens of Williamsburg. In a wrestle back Schrock pinned Michael Norenberg of Grinnell. Schrock will see Sectional 11 285 champion Jace Smith (PCM) at Districts.

“I think (today) was an up and down day and we knew that could be a possibility for our team. Coming in we weren’t going to have many one or two seeds. It was going to have to be upsets at three seeds, four seeds, five seeds and six seeds. I think for the most part we wrestled well. We didn’t have as many upsets as we needed to make it a really good day. The two that I thought were going to make it by looking at their seeds made it through. Schrock was the one who kind of got that upset that we wish we would have had a few more of but we are happy for him,” said coach Nate Van Dyke.
Other results of Trojan wrestlers include: Brennan Bergmann finished 6th at 106, Kevin Acosta-Arizmendi finished 5th at 113, Kyler Smith finished 4th at 126, Boden Koehler finished 5th at 132, Brayden Smith finished 4th at 138, Garrett Arp finished 5th at 145, Vincent Branan finished 3rd at 152, Dallas Horne finished 5th at 160, Payton Vest finished 3rd at 170, Aaron Neave finished 3rd at 195 and Cael Kellogg finished 4th at 220.
South Tama finished 5th as a team with 158 points. Williamsburg took first with 216 points and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont finished 2nd with 200.5 points. They will each wrestle Team Regional Duals on Tuesday, February 5.
The three remaining Trojans will compete at Districts on Saturday in Knoxville starting at noon.
