STC softball earns academic recognition as team, individuals

Members of the STC Softball team have worked hard not only on the field but also in the classroom.

Six members of the Softball Team earned Academic All-Conference recognition. Awards were presented to members of the STC Softball team on Thursday, July 12 at the end of season banquet held at the STC High School Cafeteria.

Juniors, Jaelin Berger, Queta Diego and Taylor Lekin and Seniors, Kenze Smith, Abbie Parizek and Saylor Upah were each presented with WaMaC Academic All-Conference awards at the banquet. Upah was also presented with an Academic All-State Award at the banquet.

On top of individual academic awards the team as a whole earned the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Distinguished in Academics Achievement Award. To get the award the entire team had to average a 3.25 gpa or higher. It’s the second year in a row the team has been presented with this achievement.

Ashlynn Ellenbecker and Saylor Upah also earned honorable mention WaMaC All-Conference Awards.

Team Awards were presented to Morgan Haughey (Most Improved), Abby Sandvick (Best Defense), Taylor Lekin (Most Enthusiastic) and Saylor Upah (Best Offense). Ashlynn Ellenbecker who was the pitcher for the Trojans also earned MVP.

WaMaC All Conference Saylor Upah and Ashlynn Ellenbecker were awarded with honorable mention through the WaMaC Conference.
