It’s a season high, career high and possibly a South Tama 5-on-5 scoring record for junior Jessica Musgrave.
Musgrave scored 39 points for the Trojans who hosted Vinton-Shellsburg on Friday, Jan. 19. Musgrave’s previous high scores came from two meet ups with Benton Community. She scored 37 points this season against the Bobcats on Jan. 12. She also scored 33 points against Benton last season.
It was a close contest for the two teams going into halftime with South Tama having a slight 22-18 advantage. Following the break Musgrave came out on fire. She was the only scorer for the Trojans in the third quarter with 10 unanswered points during one stretch. Her third quarter performance totaled 16 of her 39 points.
The Trojans worked to widen their 38-26 lead going into the fourth quarter. They ended up winning the contest 57-40. The Vikings did not have an answer defensively for Musgrave who scored 29 points in the second half, scoring all but three of STC’s points in the third and fourth quarters.

The student section helped her celebrate by singing Happy Birthday during the third quarter. And what birthday would be complete without cupcakes?
Tuesday’s win moved the Trojans overall record to 8-7. They are sitting at 4th in the WaMaC West conference.
The girls will be traveling to Clear Creek-Amana on Friday and will be home again for a non-conference boy/girl double header against Grundy Center on Thursday, Feb. 1.
