It wasn’t exactly pretty, but a win is a win. The South Tama Trojans hosted the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes on Friday, December 9. STC (2-4) defeated Vinton-Shellsburg (0-4) 64-23 in a WaMaC west contest.

The Vikettes have had a rough start to their season. They are currently 0-4 with losses to Anamosa, Beckman, Mount Vernon and Williamsburg. In Friday’s contest with STC the Vikettes struggled to take care of the ball. Due to Vinton’s struggles with ball control there were a lot of turnovers. The Trojans took advantage and racked up 20 team steals, the most yet this season.

It took an entire quarter for the Vikettes to connect with the hoop. Meanwhile, the Trojans went on an unanswered 21 point run in quarter one.

Jessica Musgrave led the Trojans in scoring with 24 points which was her second highest scoring effort of the season. Musgrave is currently third in Class 3A averaging 20 ppg. She also leads both sides of the WaMaC in scoring. On Friday, she also led the Trojans with 9 steals.

The STC girls will be home again following winter break on Tuesday, January 3 to host Mount Vernon.
