New season, new coach for Meskwaki Warriors

This season will be a year of adjustment for the Meskwaki Warriors but they are more than ready for the challenge.

The Warriors graduated several key seniors last season which included Terrell Grant, Allis Tahawah, Kade Brown, Jonas Bear, Francisco Lasley-Santos and Victor Garcia.

The team is also adjsuting to a few less teammates as well as a new coaching staff led by assistant coach, Matt Bear. Playing for the Warriors this season are seniors Ramon Garcia, Richard Horton, Orlando Kapayou and Marquez Lasley-Santos, juniors, JJ Johnson, Sterling Tyon, Raven Marquez, Miko Younbear, and Jarius Bear, and sophomores, Ellis Lasley, Tate Bear and Javoni Victor.

“We are excited about our young team. We look forward to senior leadership from Orlando Kapayou, who has been a letterman since his freshman year and a staple on the Warrior offense and defensive line,” said Bear.

“We look to provide protection for our young and developing quaterbacks and move the ball with speed & athletic ability. The Warriors look forward to the challenge of a menacing schedule, like every other year. We will develop a squad prepared to play both sides of the ball for four quarter’s of Iowa High School Football,” said Bear.

The Meskaki Warriors travelled to Janesville for their first game of the season on Friday, August 26.

The Warriors lost to Janesville 62-6.
