Pastor’s Corner: Tasty books and bones?
Pastor Mike Nodland of the Christian Fellowship Church in Vining, IA.
There is a child’s book out there that is about a kid who eats books, page by page, to get smart. Getting messed up and sick from overeating unseasoned paper stock, he settled for a toothless approach to satisfying his craving for knowledge. Eventually, he substituted eating broccoli instead. I guess this would resolve the issue of childhood obesity. Certainly, dieting on eggplant or leftover fruitcake would have worked, too.
Years ago, a friend and I went to a Chicago Cubs game before they installed night lighting. Sitting behind another fan that warm summer afternoon, I was enjoying the game as that fan was enjoying his dish of fried chicken. Soon, I couldn’t help noticing that he was eating the gristle, but then a crunching and cracking sound distracted me from the ball game. This fan was now chawing on the chicken bones. Succeeding in cracking the chicken bones apart, he gnawed away on the bones until he had consumed everything of that chicken. No bones about it!
One famous man ate a scroll, saying it tasted as sweet as honey! Why? Because he — Ezekiel — wanted to emphasize how important it is to appreciate God’s Word, symbolically internalizing His divine message. Something eating away at you? Taste and see that the LORD is good! Trust in Jesus!
