Three moral issues

For the most part, we all would like to wake up each morning with no real problems on our plates. Alarm clock goes off, jump out of bed, couple cups of coffee, kisses all around to our loved ones and another day has started. Did our team win or lose? How much snow is coming? Get that homework done or else! Just common everyday simple things going on in our lives. Heck, even the gas prices are hitting ten-year lows!!

But the fact of the matter is we have three major issues facing us. And whether we like it or not, they must or need or at least should be dealt with. Or they might deal with us. Here are the three issues I think we are facing. Could be wrong, but, (haruumph), I doubt it. They are listed in no particular order of importance. They are all important.

1.Pro-Life or Pro-Choice. In the very simplest of thoughts, there is only one question that should require an answer; “When does human life begin?” I’ve asked many, many people who identify themselves as “pro-choice,” and so far no one can give me much of an answer. “I’m not sure” or “I don’t know” is the best I ever get, it seems. On the other hand, people that identify themselves as “pro-lifers” usually quickly state, “at the moment of conception.” A very definitive answer. I’m just a simple person, but it seems that this is a serious enough issue, (56,000,000 aborted legally since 1973), to have a definitive answer. And if you don’t know, shouldn’t you err on the side of “first, do no harm?” Until you’re sure! Think about this before voting for a pro-choice candidate.

2.The influx of refugees possibly entering the United States. Say someone handed you and your family a jar with 100 delicious jelly beans inside and said they’re yours to eat. Wonderful gift, right? But then the giver of the gift tells you that one of those jelly beans is contaminated with enough poison to kill the person that eats it. Now would you be brave enough to reach in the jar and eat one? 99 are fine to eat and only one contaminated with deadly poison. Pretty safe, right? Maybe you might take the chance, but would you offer the jar to your family? To me, this is the refugee dilemma. Should we take the chance?

3.Which leads to this; What are we going to do with the ISIS Terrorist threat to the United States and the world? Is there a simple way to stop these radical terrorists? If there is, why haven’t we tried it? Maybe there isn’t a simple way at all. Then what? Innocent people are being killed daily. Our brave soldiers are dying and being severely wounded. Will they finally just get tired of all this and just sorta quit? Will they come to their senses and realize it’s futile to bring down the “great Satan?” Or maybe they will become a democracy and live in peace? And we can all sing a couple stanzas of “Kumbaya.” In World War II, we bombed the hell out of Germany and the war ended. Then we bombed the hell out of Japan and the war ended. Whether it’s time for something as drastic or horrible as this, who knows?

Our world today is dangerous. Not the simple ways of the 50’s and 60’s, but actually if go back there, it was dangerous then also. Maybe it’s high time we invoke a higher deity for help. Yea, maybe it’s time. Well, THAT’S THE WAY I SEE IT. Let me know how you see things at jsheda@indytel.com or call me at 319.327.4640.
